Jordan Lawlar

The 6th overall pick from the 2021 draft start us off here he is seen by many to be the shortstop of the future for the organization. The spent the majority of the 2023 in AA with short stop in AAA before making his Major League debut. While he did struggle in his short time in the MLB, most believe he will be great player in the league for a long time. Without injuries, the likely hood of making the Diamondbacks out of spring training is not high. They want him starting everyday which is unlikely in MLB, and they want him to improve against righties as his OPS was .400 lower when facing righties vs lefties. The GM is very sure he will be in the MLB at some point this season.

Strengths

The two main strengths for Lawlar is his slick fielding at short and his speed. Entering 2023, some question his ability in the field. Question that quickly went away as he prove to be one the best defensive shortstops in the minor and major leagues. Equally as important is his ability to run as he has shown in the field and around the base paths.

Weakness

While improving tremendous in 2023 with the bat. His AB in the majors prove that he still has work to do if he want to be great shortstop in the MLB. Right now he would be consider an average shortstop, however if he wants to move into the upper echelon of shortstop his bat will need to keep improving. Particularly with increasing power, and hitting against righties. One overlook part of him is that he was injury in the first two season in the minors. While he had a healthy 2023, he will be looking to make sure that injuries do not derail his career.
